Human Harvest

(Final year project)

Livestock farms as we know them are unsustainable, they produce large numbers in emissions, use vast amounts of Earth's resources and are unable to support our rapidly growing population. Human Harvest proposes a future where we eat ourselves! A constantly replenishing food resource, a good source of protein and better for the environment; why aren't we already promoting cannibalism?

Avoiding Tomorrow?

Environmental awareness is growing worldwide, but we are still not doing enough. Building from scratch is an unhealthy approach when there are over 24,000 abandoned commercial properties in London.  Materials used for modern construction add extremely high amounts of pollution to the atmosphere.

One of the worst of these is concrete: there are alternative materials which are less harmful, but due to the cost concrete is still chosen.  Here I explore the idea of using the unwanted and rethinking the known, in order to limit the construction of new buildings when there are plenty of existing sites available.

Caring for the Carer

A space for self-reflection, where carers can go to escape their stressful, high-demanding lives. The space will be somewhere to clear your mind, with both social and independent areas, allowing experiences and advice to be shared as well as taking time to reflect upon yourself. Taking inspiration form Alvar Aalto, there will be a connection with nature through the use of, fresh air and natural light, to allow a calming atmosphere. The space will accommodate both professional and non-professional carers. Other charities and members of the public will be allowed to enter the space, to enhance their own knowledge on carers by learning through stories of the carers via the usage of the space.

Story-telling Pizza

Pizza Express are looking to open a kiosk within travel hubs, such as train stations and airports. The site will offer a simplified menu which changes depending on the time of day. All products will be prepared and cooked at the kiosk to provide the same Pizza Express experience as in their restaurants. A grab and go concept must be considered for time-aware travellers.

To keep the project to the existing Pizza Express brand,  the iconic black and white stripe and blue colour were incorporated. One natural material will be used throughout. The kiosk can adapt to each location through the usage of patterns.

Insect Soup

Insect Soup is a healthy alternative to a food bank, where the local community can produce their own protein in the form of insects. Food banks typically provide families and individuals with tinned long-life food which is often not very nutritious. Insects are low-cost, easy to breed and have a great nutritional value (a lot better than meat). The insects will be combined with British herbs to create flavoursome dishes to be enjoyed by all.

A Day At The Switch House

I conducted an essay which explored and analysed three key spaces within The Switch House. The essay invloved my view and evaluation having visited the spaces and conducted various research methods.

Feel the Wind

“Design & construct a wearable device that modifies or disrupts your experience of moving through space. Your artefact can be subtle, mischievous, provocative or insane whilst avoiding injury or harm to others.” - Brief by Disney, R.

For this project, I collaborated with Veronika Balazova to create a device inspired by kites and parachutes. It uses the wind to slow down and restrict the freeness of movement.
