	Human Harvest(Final year uni project)
Livestock farms as we know them are unsustainable, they produce large numbers in emissions, use vast amounts of Earth's resources and are unable to support our rapidly growing population. Human Harvest proposes a future where we eat ourselves! A constantly replenishing food resource, a good source of protein and better for the environment; why aren't we already promoting cannibalism?

	Wine Exhibition StandA wine exhibition stand which embraces a vinyard aesthetic. The stand includes a networking space, custom bar and bottle displays, and provides an immersive experience for all visitors.

	Stemmed ZineA start-up zine named Stemmed wanted to create a zine to relfect upon and infulence women in STEM industries. They wanted the style of the zine to look like a scrap-book with an Olivia Rodrigo Sour asthetic.

	Avoiding Tomorrow?Environmental awareness is growing worldwide, but we are still not doing enough. Building from scratch is an unhealthy approach when there are over 24,000 abandoned commercial properties in London. &#38;nbsp;Materials used for modern construction add extremely high amounts of pollution to the atmosphere.
One of the worst of these is concrete: there are alternative materials which are less harmful, but due to the cost concrete is still chosen. &#38;nbsp;Here I explore the idea of using the unwanted and rethinking the known, in order to limit the construction of new buildings when there are plenty of existing sites available.

	Caring for CarersA space for self-reflection, where carers can go to escape their rewarding but stressful, high-demanding lives. The space will be somewhere to clear your mind, with both social and independent areas, allowing experiences and advice to be shared as well as taking time to reflect upon yourself. Taking inspiration form Alvar Aalto, there will be a connection with nature through the use of, fresh air and natural light, to allow a calming atmosphere. The space will accommodate both professional and non-professional carers. Other charities and members of the public will be allowed to enter the space, to enhance their own knowledge on carers by learning through stories of the carers via the usage of the space. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

	Storytelling PizzaPizza Express are looking to open a kiosk within travel hubs, such as train stations and airports. The site will offer a simplified menu which changes depending on the time of day. All products will be prepared and cooked at the kiosk to provide the same Pizza Express experience as in their restaurants. A grab and go concept must be considered for time-aware travellers.

To keep the project to the existing Pizza Express brand,&#38;nbsp; the iconic black and white stripe and blue colour were incorporated. One natural material will be used throughout. The kiosk can adapt to each location through the usage of patterns.

	Insect SoupInsect Soup is a healthy alternative to a food bank, where the local community can produce their own protein in the form of insects. Food banks typically provide families and individuals with tinned long-life food which is often not very nutritious. Insects are low-cost, easy to breed and have a great nutritional value (a lot better than meat). The insects will be combined with British herbs to create flavoursome dishes to be enjoyed by all.

	A Day At The Switch HouseI conducted an essay which explored and analysed three key spaces within The Switch House. The essay invloved my view and evaluation having visited the spaces and conducted various research methods.The essay can be viewed here

	&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;Feel the Wind
“Design &#38;amp; construct a wearable device that modifies or disrupts your experience of moving through space. Your artefact can be subtle, mischievous, provocative or insane whilst avoiding injury or harm to others.” - Brief by Disney, R.

For this project, I collaborated with Veronika Balazova to create a device inspired by kites and parachutes. It uses the wind to slow down and restrict the freeness of movement.

	Graphic DesignWhilst studying graphic design at college, I created postcards, photomontage collages, patterns and product branding.

		<description>A B O U T

I’m a friendly, ambitious and quirky individual with a passion for creativity and design. I always put my best effort into any task, and I love working with others to come up with bold, exciting ideas. I’m approachable, curious, and bring enthusiasm to everything I do.I graduated with a first-class degree in Interior Architecture, where I developed strong creative and technical skills, which I am eager to put into practice. One of my favourite parts of designing is the research and conceptual side. It's where I get to explore new ideas, share my discoveries and and dive into areas which spark my curiosity. I believe all projects should tell their own stories, and have a personal connection with their audience.My professional goals are to work within a versitile studio where I can combine my love for storytelling and design, to create memorable experiences; and to pursue further education in MA Narrative Environments. Recently, I’ve been enjoying working with social media, where I’ve created content, managed platforms, and learnt how to digitally connect with audiences in meaningful ways.

I’m keen to continue learning and developing my skills, whether in design, social media, or a combination of both.

	The Brief

To design a wine exhibition stand which embraces a vinyard aesthetic.&#38;nbsp;The space is to have 3 main purposes:
1) A networking area
2) Custom wine bar and bottle display
3) To be an immersive experience

	&#60;img width="2480" height="3508" width_o="2480" height_o="3508" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/d8ccdfefd0ec9b1a40877337b98c17aec21c0ce42d934db31825488aefa47581/wine-conceptual-visual.png" data-mid="214252283" border="0" data-scale="100" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/d8ccdfefd0ec9b1a40877337b98c17aec21c0ce42d934db31825488aefa47581/wine-conceptual-visual.png" /&#62;

	The Design
Personally I find the most memorable part of vinyards to be the countryside views and the strong smell of wine from the estate. I wanted to ensure these features were included in the exhibiton stand design to allow visitors to truly embrace the vinyard experience.&#38;nbsp;The bar area is the focal point of the stand. With the company logo illumiated behind, customers instantly know what is on offer. Here tasting glasses of wine are handed out to allow visitors to have a taste of luxury.
The custom-made bar stools are height adjustable which allow them to double as side tables for the bench seating area.
Surrounding the outdoor-style timber bench seating are picture screens which showcase the bautiful vinyard views of the rolling hills and rows of grape trees. This created the perfect place to network and sit down with a glass of English wine. Hidden amoungst the wine bottles found on the shelving and tables are diffusers. These re-purposed wine bottles emit the fruity aroma of the wine, filling the air with smells to set the mood and start conversations.&#38;nbsp;

The BriefA start-up company called Stemmed wanted to create a zine to relfect and infulence women in STEM industries. They wanted the style of the zine to look like a scrap-book with an Olivia Rodrigo Sour asthetic.
I took the company colours (pastel green and pink) and created some STEM stickers to produce a magazine spread.

	The Brief
In the near-future, the meat market as we currently know will be unsustainable. Currently, approximately 38% of Earth’s land is taken up by agriculture, 80% of which is used for livestock. Livestock produce 35% of global methane emissions and use 20-33% of the fresh water supply.

 By using in-vitro meat (IVM), emissions will significantly reduce, land will be freed up and there will be more fresh water available for other purposes. IVM also results in less meat waste as it involves growing muscle, this means that we only grow what we use. As IVM can be genetically modified, it also results in less disease being spread by meat, so there would be very little amounts of unusable meat.My proposal uses human meat, this means that no designated land is required to keep livestock. The cells will be taken from donors who already have their own space elsewhere. There is an endless supply of humans, many of which would be willing to donate cells for meat production.

Human Harvest welcomes meat-eaters, vegetarians and vegans to eat this sustainable source of protein.

The Site
The site 79-83 Charterhouse Street has a great history with meat, making it the perfect site for Human Harvest.

The site is a grade II listed building which is located opposite the West Market building of Smithfield Market. The building was designed and built in the in 1930’s to accommodate the department for the Meat Inspectors of Smithfield Market.

The neighbouring buildings are Tetto’s restaurant and the famous Fabric nightclub.

I produced a site illustration of one of the main entrances to Smithfield Market. I chose this image to be the

basis of my site illustration as I was drawn to this siteby the distinct bright colours, and intricate gates. I believe that Smithfield Market is at the heart of the Farringdon community, and as it is such a iconic part of the area it well represents the spirit of Smithfield.

	The Design
The space is being designed for the client Bistro In Vitro. Bistro In Vitro came from the In vitro meat cookbook written by Dr. Koert van Mensvoot. They welcome meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans to make a reservation for 2030 to eat their in vitro meat (IVM) dishes.

The lab grown meat industry significantly grew in 2020. Many new companies were founded and investments hit a record level. The level of new companies increased by 43%, and investments totalled to over £250,000,000. A study conducted showed that 80% of residents within the UK and US are open to eating meat which originates from a lab rather than a farm. Lab grown meat is highly likely to be accepted by society.

Human Harvest, encourages customers to get to know their meat. The locally sourced and produced meat is human which allows for customers to interact with their food and get to know their ‘meat’ on a personal level. They will know exactly the life the ‘meat’ lives and the process of how it has ended up on their plate.

When donors sign up at the site they are agreeing for their meat to be used by the bistro and to be served to customers. Each donor receives a cash incentive as well as a free sample of their meat once grown. Bistro customers are given a menu of the human donors which shows a profile of each meat source. The profile will include the name, age, fat percentage and basic lifestyle of the donor and a summary of the meat taste, therefore the customer chooses a ‘meat’ to fit their taste buds.

As human meat is used to produce the food, both vegans and vegetarians will be encouraged to eat it as it is 100% consensual and does not harm any animals.

The site will consist of a laboratory, bar/tasting area, a learning hub, a donor centre and a bistro. Visitors to the site will be taken through a journey of discovery. When approaching the site, you will be greeted large window showing the donors having their cells extracted. Upon entering, you pass a mysterious object, which reveals a laboratory as you ascend through the site.&#38;nbsp;

The ground floor is the first-taste, here the bar/taster area and a short film explaiing the process can be found. The first floor consists of a learning hub, where visitors can access documents produced by the onsite scientists, as well as other books of interest, such as the In-vitro Bistro cookbook. The second floor is where customers have their dining experience, it is also the level where the laboratory is fully exposed.&#38;nbsp;

To advertise the benefits of eating IVM human meat, and to help with the connotations around cannibalism, Bistro In-Vitro will publish a series of posters to be placed around London and on social media. Meaty colours will be combined with slogans to encourage users to discover more about human harvest. As the in-vitro human meat is consensual, the campaign will also target vegans and vegetarians to persuade them to eat this cruelty-free meat.

	The Brief

Workspaces continuously have to adjust to changes revolving around the idea of ‘work’.

The porous office explores the permeability between inside and out both physically and virtually, how spaces can enhance social interaction and how a space can be mixed-usemixed-use which integrates various aspects of life (domestic, work, public) .

The project is based off the selected typology:&#38;nbsp;Agora (public workspace), and the selected client: community health service.

The image on the right shows the manifesto for the project. I explored how I wanted to create a space where carers can go to feel free and escape their stressful lives. The space will be linked to the charity Carers Trust who provide support for any carers in the UK.
The manifesto also expresses how one will explore their emotions and self-reflect through therapy sessions and time alone in secluded meditation/quiet spaces.&#38;nbsp;Cool tones were used to portray calmness.

	The Site

	50-52 Union Street was recently owned by the London college of Creative media. It has since been sold to Lipton Plant who are in the process of converting the building into an office space and an apartment, despite dispute from the neighbouring church.&#38;nbsp;Prior to this, the building has been used as an office block for many years.

The site is located next to flat-iron square, in the middle of Southwark, Borough and London Bridge stations.

Grade II-listed Roman Catholic Church of the Most Precious Blood, neighbours the site. The church was built in 1891, and designed by F A Walters in a neo- Romanesque style. The church was used by the Irish-Catholic community.

The site is located within The Low-Line. The Low-Line focuses on rail arches which have been part of Bankside for over 150 years. The project aims to transform the public realm by opening up the mostly car-free walkway which runs along the base of the arches.

	The Design

Key components:- A Plant swap shop allows a point of physical exchange, where the carers can take a plant home to take care of, giving them a short pause in their day-to-day life.

- Confessional-style therapy booths allow the carers to talk to health-care professionals without seeing them face-to-face. This will allow the user to feel more at ease when talking as their identity will not be revealed.

- Areas of self reflection provide the carers a chance to escape and reflect upon their day-to-day life. These are quietquiet and secluded areas to allow the user to reflect upon themselves, as well as observe others through interior viewpoints. These will be found as individual, closed-off seating areas within the mesh structure.

What happens on site:
- The carers enter the space through a secret entrance. This is to separate from the public areas (ground floor and basement) and allow the carers full access to the rest of the building.

-Seating will be located within the leafy mesh containers. There will be moments of individual secluded seating, for self-reflection, as well as shared social seating.

- The plant swap shop provides the carers a physical point of exchange. Here they put their unwanted plants and find a new one to take care of.

- Standing work tables promote a healthier lifestyle which can help lead to improved mentality. They work tables allow both professional and non-professional carers to support one another and exchange helpful information to improve their way of work.

- The outdoor terrace allow the carers to have access to fresh air. Fresh air was a key feature in the work of Alvar Aalto to help healing and to create a calm environment. The outdoor space provides a moment of calm with seating surrounded by plants which are known to help relaxation, e.g. lavender.&#38;nbsp;

		<description>S T O R Y T E L L I N G &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;P I Z Z A

	As part of the 2020 RetailExpo design competition, I was tasked with designing a kiosk for Pizza Express. The kiosk was to be in a travel hub and targeted commuters as their target market audience.

To create the final design I researched into the history of Pizza Express, the company’s values and their exisiting resturants. Also relevant case studies, I was highly inspired by the Cos pop-up shop by Gary Card, the Roaming Market by Aberrant Architecture and paintings by Piet Mondrian.

	&#60;img width="3508" height="4961" width_o="3508" height_o="4961" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/8d9190db51598ffeadeb823537ee16ad730bdb926810e0933ae95c3c7f48b496/cover.jpg" data-mid="80023303" border="0" data-scale="85" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/8d9190db51598ffeadeb823537ee16ad730bdb926810e0933ae95c3c7f48b496/cover.jpg" /&#62;

	The DesignTo keep the project to the existing Pizza Express brand,&#38;nbsp; the iconic black and white stripe and blue colour were incorporated into my design. One natural material will be used throughout.

The kiosk can adapt to each location through the usage of pattern, and the time of day through movable walls.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The pattern work is based off the black and white Pizza Express stripe as well as Kings Cross and St.Pancras stations. Through research the history of both stations I selected information which I found interesting and created patterns based off of the selections.

For Kings Cross Station the patterns are based on Harry Potter, Queen Boudica and the stations design relation to a Moscow riding school.

For St.Pancras Station the patterns relate to the milk trade and the story of the broken station clock

		<description>I N S E C T &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;S O U P

	The Brief
Food is an important part of everyday life, however it is becoming unsustainable due to habits of eating out, not buying locally produced food,&#38;nbsp; packaging and amounts of food wastage. The brief entailed of choosing an activity and one typology to be the basis of the project. I chose eating (activity) and school.

For my design I wanted to create a space where people try the unordinary and discover new foods. As the users of my design were low-income families, I decided on insects as they are easy to grow and require little materials and space.
The insects I decided on were crickets and mosquitoes. Crickets were chosen due to their protein levels, required climate and due to the sound they create. As the site had an existing pond located in a glass box, mosquitoes were chosen as this is their ideal space. The glasshouse had the potential to act as a greenhouse which would help keep temperatures to the mosquitoes preference.

Insects are known to not have much flavour when eaten alone, so flavouring is required. In order to provide a flavour British herbs would be grown in the space. These were selected as insects are widely eaten across the world, but are very uncommon in the UK. The British herbs would provide a cultural twist to the insects

	Site ResearchTo carry out and gather sufficient site research, you have to become a ‘Design Detective’.
This involves discovering new methodology alongside current knowledge and research in order to find out everything about a site. These may include previous occupancy, history, materiality, culture and changes overtime.

I carried out various methodology techniques when producing my site research of the Low-Line. These included of photography, sound recordings, film, site writing, sketches, collage, mapping and online research.

	This map shows the route of the Low-Line. The pink lines highlight the railway tracks, and the grey maps out the main surrounding streets. Important landmarks in the area are marked out, including railway and underground stations, and key areas along the Low-Line.

	 This collage shows different materiality across the Low-Line. The majority was brick. One wall located round the back of a building had a pattern created from grout which appeared to be in a similar shape to the Low-Line map, this is shown from the line over the photographs.

	Borough market has been serving Southwark for over 1000 years, it is London’s oldest market but still serves as much purpose as it did all those years ago. Borough Market is an independent institution owned by a charitable trust and run by a board of volunteer trustees.In 2016 Borough Market won loo of the year in the market category.
The area is at the heart of the Low-line and has been a key part of London ever since the market opened.

Whilst here a blind drawing, freefall writing and sound map were produced.
The blind drawing shows a fruit and vegetable stall near one of the entrances for Borough Market.
The freefall writing exercise allowed me to explore as many senses as possible (sight, smell, touch, sound, taste) within the area. One phrase I liked from my site writing was ‘urban thunderstorm’; this was describing the sound of a train passing over Borough Market.

A sound map shows the spread of sound in the area. The figure in the middle of the circle represents where I was stood. The mapped out lines show the railway tracks which run over the area of Borough Market where the sound map was taken. The other icons represent the source of the sound, for example the foot steps refer to people walking and the market represents a sales man. The bigger the icon the louder the sound. The larger the spread of the purple rings, the further sound travelled.

	A conceptual model was made after the visit to Borough Market. I used my experience and discoverie to create the different aspects of the model.

The orange figures have the ability to move, to represent Borough Market at different times of day, as well as the density and spread of sound. Each figure has an individual carving to show the diverseness of visitors and users of the market.

The copper coated rod is shaped to the junction of the train track above Borough Market.

The string represents the flow of sound and the connection between the different stalls and cultures located in the market.

Design Process
The design process involved a significant amount of research on case studies, herbs, what insects are edible and existing bug-related recipies.

I also visited the FOOD exhibition held at the V&#38;amp;A which provided an interesting view on the process of food as well as sustainability.

During the design process I created a series of plaster experiments which contained a variety of herbs, seasonings and insects

	The DesignThe final design puts the humans inside the the mesh container, whilst the insects roam free on the outside.

The space will be an immsersive experience which works all senses. The herb wall will fill the air with earthy aromas, when rubbed against the sents become stronger. The insects (particually crickets) create a loud humming sound which echos throughout the site.

Central area is where the cooking happens. Families gather in this space to create a sustainable meal from the ingredients on site. The resturants in the local area take turns in sending a chef to oversee activities in the space, and to learn alongside the users to incorporate edible insects into their future.
